Every second call we take starts with “roughly what does a broken window cost to fix?” The honest answer is “it depends”, but there are ballpark ranges we can share up-front, based on real Penrith jobs we quoted in 2026. This post is that ballpark.
The short answer
- Standard broken residential window pane: $180 to $450 supplied and fitted.
- Sliding door glass replacement: $400 to $850.
- Frameless shower screen (custom): $1,200 to $2,400.

- Commercial shopfront pane: $600 to $1,500.
- Double-glazed IGU replacement: $500 to $1,200 depending on size.

What actually drives the number
1. Glass grade and thickness
Toughened is roughly 20 to 40% cheaper than laminated for the same area. Thicker glass costs more per m² because the raw glass costs more and the toughening cycle takes longer. A 10 mm toughened panel is typically 60 to 80% more per m² than a 6 mm.
2. Size
Small panes have setup costs that do not scale down. A 400 x 600 mm bathroom pane costs almost as much to make as a 600 x 900 mm one, because cutting, edge-work, and delivery time is similar. Bigger panes get cheaper per m² up to about 1500 x 2100, then oversize surcharges kick in.
3. Access
Ground floor, walk-in access: standard rate. Upper storey needing ladders: usually add $150 to $300. Anything needing a scissor lift or elevated work platform is quoted separately.
4. Turnaround
Standard 3-to-5 day turnaround: no premium. Same-day install on a stocked size: no premium. Rush order requiring manufacturer expedite: cost of the expedite fee passed through, typically $80 to $200.
5. Frame condition
If your existing frame is corroded, painted-shut or out of square by more than the spec allows, the pane goes in with more time and effort. On old aluminium frames this can add $100 to $250 on the invoice.

How to keep the quote honest
Three things to insist on when comparing Penrith glazier quotes:
- Glass grade in writing. “Toughened 6 mm” or “laminated 6.38”. If the quote just says “glass”, it is not a comparable quote.
- Standards named. AS 1288 for the installation, AS/NZS 2208 for the safety glass. If they do not appear, ask why.
- Public liability confirmed. Ask for the Certificate of Currency. A quote from an uninsured glazier is not a real quote.
